Bad Cat Blues
Bad Cat Blues is a cool swingin' duet (1 piano/4 hands) with a laid-back vibe. Smooth shared melodies between Secondo and Primo keep both parts engaged. Bluesy triplets, grace notes and a relaxed ostinato add to the mellow groove. This is such a fun duet to play, and it's one that will really appeal to teens. It makes a fantastic recital addition! One copy required for performance. Number of pages: 4. Approx. Level 4.
This duet is perfect for you if you want:
- a great example of 12-bar blues
- a piece to motivate your teens
- catchy riffs and a laid-back rhythm
- a superb exercise in ensemble skills
- an audience pleaser at your next recital
I wrote this piece while suffering from a case of the "bad cat blues". I wanted to write a slow bluesy tune that introduced students to the 12-bar blues. The catchy melody parts move all around the C blues scale, and the repetitive left hand accompaniment is great practice for thumb-crossing. As with all my duets the Secondo gets a turn with the melody too. So if you're looking for a recital-ready intermediate jazz duet that will motivate your students, Bad Cat Blues is for you!
