The Entertaining Mosquito
The Entertaining Mosquito is a humorous ragtime piano duet (1 piano/4 hands) featuring snippets of Scott Joplin's "The Entertainer". Characteristic ragtime features include stride bass and syncopation; shared melodies and a simple prepared piano option add that extra "buzz". This is a late elementary piano duet, but students right up to late intermediate level would appreciate the challenge! One copy required for performance. Number of pages: 4. Approx. Grade 4.
This duet is perfect for you if you want:
- new ragtime material in a fun format
- lots of laughs on the piano bench
- an easy way to introduce prepared piano
- a total audience pleaser
- motivating material for early to late intermediate students
I wrote this duet five years ago, and it's still one of my favourites to play with my duet partner Irene. It's fun to play at a relaxed tempo, but we always seem to go as fast as possible! If you have a grand piano, the prepared piano option is a must for adding that special "mosquito" sound. So if you're looking for a feel-good duet and love "The Entertainer", The Entertaining Mosquito is for you!
